Robert Walsh
Robert Walsh est un des dynamos de la chanson francophone de l’Ouest. Le guitariste virtuose originaire de la région de Montréal est déjà reconnu en tant que formateur, arrangeur, compositeur, directeur musical et artistique. Depuis 2000, Robert (not ‘Bob’) Walsh a réalisé des disques pour toute une pléiade d’artistes de toutes souches en Alberta, Saskatchewan et Québec. On l’a aussi entendu à maintes reprises au sein de l’Orchestre symphonique d’Edmonton, la Société de l’Opéra d’Edmonton, et le Ballet de l’Alberta. Robert a gagné de nombreuses récompenses avec les albums d’Andrea Menard en tant que co-composeur et producteur des deux (bientôt trois) CDs. En octobre 2008, le théâtre Citadel jouait sa dernière œuvre “Forbidden Phoenix”, une comédie musicale crée avec Marty Chan. Cette œuvre mélangeant des aspects de l’opéra de Pékin et du théatre musical de l’Ouest canadien, sera en représentation à Toronto et à Vancouver dans le cadre des Olympiades culturelles en 2010.
Robert Walsh is one of the dynamos of Francophone music in western Canada. This virtuoso guitarist, originally from Montreal, is recognized as a singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, educator and musical director. Since 2000, Robert (not ‘Bob’) Walsh has produced albums for a pleiade of artists of all origins in Alberta and Saskatchewan. We have also heard him play multiple times with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Opera as well as with the Alberta Ballet. He played the Fourth Stage of the National Arts Centre twice in 2005. In the summer of 2006 Robert traveled to Washington (DC) with the roots group Allez Ouest, representing the Franco Albertan community at the Alberta@Smithsonian. Robert has won a number of awards for his work with Andrea Menard as co-writer and producer of two of her (soon to be) three albums. And on October 25, 2008, the Citadel Theatre will bring “Forbidden Phoenix”, the ‘martial arts musical’ written with playwright Marty Chan, to the stage. This elaborate work blends Peking Opera with Western Musical Theatre, and will travel to Toronto and Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.
